BrocnoSports: Chris Petersen Named Finalist For Eddie Robinson National Coach of The Year Award

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State University head football coach Chris Petersen has been named a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year.

Petersen, who just completed his third undefeated regular season in the past four years guiding the Broncos, joins a list that includes Mark Brown of Texas, Georgia Tech’s Paul Johnson, Cincinnati’s Brian Kelly, Oregon’s Chip Kelly, TCU’s Gary Patterson and Nick Saban of Alabama.

Boise State completed the 2009 regular season with a 13-0 mark, and captured its seventh Western Athletic Conference Championship in the past eight years.

The Broncos also qualified for their second trip in the past four seasons to a Bowl Championship Series postseason bowl game and will face TCU in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 4 (Monday) in Glendale, Arizona.

In his first year directing the Boise State program in 2006, Petersen also led the Broncos to a Tostitos Fiesta Bowl berth where they upset Oklahoma, 43-42 in overtime.

Petersen’s overall record in his four years as the head coach at Boise State is 48-4. Petersen was also a finalist for this award in 2006.

The Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year award winner is selected upon a vote of the entire membership of the Football Writers Association of America.
