Boise State Signs Ten to 2010 Football Recruiting Class

BroncoSports: Boise State Signs Ten to 2010 Football Recruiting Class

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State University head football coach Chris Petersen announced the signing of 10 players to the Broncos' 2010 recruiting class, Wednesday (Feb. 3), which is headlined by nine highly accomplished high school seniors and one All-American junior college transfer.

Geographically, Petersen and his coaching staff compiled a less diverse recruiting class than in recent years, as players come from just five different states and one foreign country. Once again, California has produced the most talent in the class with four players committing to Boise State. Two players join the Broncos from Idaho this year, while Oregon, Montana and Hawaii each produced one recruit. Rounding out the group is Windsor, Ontario native Tyrone Crawford, who transfers to Boise State from Bakersfield College in Bakersfield, Calif.

The 2010 class does offer some variety by position, as the Broncos were able to secure recruits at six different positions. Defensive ends, tight ends and wide receivers lead the way this year with two recruits each. Boise State also added Bryan Douglas (Los Angeles, Calif.) at cornerback, Grant Hedrick (Independence, Ore.) at quarterback and Darren Lee (Susanville, Calif.) at fullback/linebacker.

One of the highlights of the class was the signing of Jeremy Ioane from Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii.  Ioane, a 5-11, 180 pound safety, did not make his final decision to join the Broncos until Wednesday (Feb. 3) morning during a signing ceremony in Honolulu.

Boise State is coming off its second Tostitos Fiesta Bowl Championship in four years, a perfect 14-0 overall record, its seventh Western Athletic Conference in the last eight seasons, and a final 2009 ranking of No. 4 in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls.

The Broncos are scheduled to open their 2010 season on Labor Day (Sept. 6) day) against Virginia Tech at Fed Ex Field in Washington, DC.  The will be televised nationally by ESPN with a kickoff set at 8:00 p.m. (ET).
