Boise State / Virginia Tech Game at Fed Ex Field in Washington DC moved to Labor Day

BroncoSports: Boise State / Virginia Tech Game at Fed Ex Field in Washington DC moved to Labor Day

BOISE, Idaho - Its official, Boise State University's football game next season against Virginia Tech at Fed Ex Field in Washington, DC, has been moved to Labor Day (Sept. 6).  Kickoff for the game, scheduled to be televised to a national audience on ESPN, is 8:00 p.m. (ET) on the home field of the Washington Redskins.

The game had originally been scheduled for Oct. 2 (Saturday).

This will mark the first time Boise State and Virginia Tech have faced each other in football, and it will also mean two straight games for the Broncos on the home field of a NFL team.

Boise State's last game was on Jan. 4, 2010 when the Broncos posted a 17-10 victory over TCU in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl at University of Phoenix Stadium, the home field of the Arizona Cardinals.

The movement of the Virginia Tech game means Boise State's game with the University of Toledo, originally set for Sept. 11 (Saturday) at Bronco Stadium, will move to Oct. 9.

Boise State's other two non-conference games for 2010 are still currently set for Sept. 18 (Saturday) at the University of Wyoming and at home on Sept. 25 (Saturday) against Oregon State University.

Three of the Broncos' non-conference opponents played in postseason bowl games last year.  Virginia Tech, which finished the season ranked No. 10 in the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches' polls, defeated Tennessee, 37-14, at the Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta.  Wyoming handed WAC member Fresno State a 35-28 double overtime loss at the New Mexico Bowl in Albuquerque, while Oregon State lost its game at the MAACO Las Vegas Bowl, 44-20, to BYU.

The rest of Boise State's 2010 schedule, which will include all eight WAC games, will be announced next month.

A reminder that all dates for the 2010 football schedule are tentative.
