BOISE, Idaho – The 2012 “Beat Coach Pete” Scholarship Run/Walk is scheduled for April 14 (Saturday), the first time the race has been held on the same day as the annual Bronco Football Spring Game.
The race is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m., in front of the Student Rec Center at Boise State and will finish inside Bronco Stadium. The Spring Game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., at Bronco Stadium.
All race participants will receive free admission to the Spring Game by showing their race bib or number.
This is the fifth year of “Beat Coach Pete,” and more than 2,500 runners and walkers are expected to descend on campus for the 5K event. All proceeds benefit the general scholarship fund at Boise State University.
Race participants will receive a T-shirt that says either, "I Beat Pete," or, "I'll Beat Pete Next Year," depending on how individuals finish in comparison to Bronco football head coach Chris Petersen. The first four years of the race have raised $98,000 toward the student scholarship fund, meaning 2012 will see the race eclipse $100,000 raised for the University.
Families and kids of all ages are encouraged to participate.
Registration for Beat Coach Pete is $15 for Boise State students and kids under 10 years of age; $25 for adults; a family race entry is $60 (up to five people). Coach Pete will also donate an additional $5 to the scholarship fund for every racer who crosses the finish line ahead of him.
Registration can be done on-line at rec.boisestate.edu, or by calling 426-1131.
