Exotic Car Group Breakfast Run - June 27, 2009 (36)

We're posting images of this past week-end's excursion up to the Garden Valley area with the Exotic Car Group for their annual breakfast run.. Idaho Cobra Club really appreciated the invite to tag along.. we all had an awesome time.  On the way back down, some of us stop in Emmett to check out the annual Freezeout Hill Climb going on that day as well.  --Gear6

It may be hard to describe the enjoyment in being part of a caravan of sports cars traveling together, taking in the scenery and sights along the way. but to simply say it was fun tends to diminish the small nuances of spending time doing what you love, with kindred spirits.

Images can't reflect the blast we had.. but it documents for those of us who were there. We can all reflect back and know we did something truly fun on that day.. I mean seriously, do any of us really want to look back and remember staying home, mowing the lawn.

Uh.. in a word, no. Life's too short, right?

  • Boston Trip.. April 2009

    Boston Trip.. April 2009 (48)

Its time for a little spring maintenance on SPO 2788..

Last week, our East coast MKIII owner George, flew Wayne into Boston to have a little spring maintenance work done on his Superformance Galaxy Blue SPO 2788.. its getting to be that time of year you know.. itching to drive the car.

This was a great opportunity for Wayne to see the car up close and personal after the first year, and to visit with George and his family while enjoying the gorgeous spring weather there, during the visit.

Work done included replacing a water temperature gauge; checking ride height, brakes, safety wires, tire pressure; changing engine oil, oil filter; installing filter mag; change transmission fluid; adjust timing, adjust carburetor; check & repair leaks; change spark plugs; adjust valves; change valve cover gaskets; spanner check; checking & topping off all fluids.

    Irvine Trip 04.15 - 04.16 2009 (SPO 2922) (42)

Trip to Irvine, picking up SPF MKIII SPO 2922 (Royal Blue/White).. for Henry in Montana, our newest customer.

Wayne smiling, just to be in sunny weather. Strangely, we encountered yet another freak spring snow storm at 3:00 am no less. We managed to limp our way along at speeds of 35-40 mph, there were no plows or sanding trucks out, hmm. In places there were drifts of snow 8 inches deep in the center of the road. So much fun, uh huh. LOL!

A trip from Boise to Winnemucca, NV normally takes approximately 4 hrs.. this trip it took us almost 7 hrs! Once we passed thru the storm it was clear and sunny, go figure. LOL! The trip back was uneventful, for that we were thankful.

    Superformance MKIII SPO 2923 (23)

SWEET!  This beauty belongs to our newest customer Dave, in the Portland area.. both he & his wife first visited us shortly after we opened.  We're thrilled he joined the Gear 6 Performance family of Superformance owners.  Dave made the decision to make it happen and after finding the right color combination, he special ordered a couple of extra options.. bumperetts and passenger seat slider. The engine package includes a polished Roush 427SR.. awesome.

Images reflect the journey.. from Irvine to our shop (Idaho) before its final journey home in the Portland area. (we'll include additional images after delivery)

  • Custom MKIII Street Roadster

    Custom MKIII Street Roadster (20)

We're so lucky to have struck up a cyber friendship with the folks from the Kentucky Cobra Club, in particular Juan Lopez-Bonilla. Recently he and his wife Cindy, sold their second Cobra to custom build a very special Superformance MKIII Roadster. It's stunning appearance is a direct result of all the considerations they both wanted in their dream Cobra, including the style, no side pipes, no stripes, no rivets, no hood scoop, under-car exhaust, wire wheels, a hard top, two roll bars and color.

Juan has also documented this custom build journey from its conception to the final stages of the build with images both at the factory and at delivery, sharing his personal story from the perspective of a customer.  We think you'll agree this is one very special and unique Cobra.

P.S. the first three images show the completed car with Dayton Wire Wheels.

Evil Eagle To Be Retired (21)

    Recap from Seattle BOTI..

We've updated details here.. Project G6P about the recent Seattle race carnage.

It was a contradiction of results.. Jake ran a personal best of 8.66@165 mph in his qualifying round. In the first round of eliminations (a bi-run, no less) he lost the transfer case, which in turn took out the drive shaft, half of the transmission, and caved in the gas tank! He was very lucky.. the gas spill could have ignited by the sparks under the car from all the carnage. A sobering thought.. sigh.

P.S. Jake is working on a new project, to be revealed soon.

    The Blue Devil - SPO 2813 (30)

We've nicknamed this car the 'Blue Devil'.. and we think it's earned her name. Have you seen the Roush engine ID on this?  Seriously, just getting past the nearly two week hold on the cargo container by Customs, with this roller inside (along with three others) was enough to give us all ulcers. We think she's a gem both in color and in performance!

It was a quick trip down to Vegas & back.  Wayne thoroughly enjoyed delivering the MKIII and meeting Mike again, even if it was 111 degrees in the shade. Phew!

  • Boston Trip

    Boston Trip (51)

Images during our recent long road trip to Boston, MA.. although we traveled through 18 states during the entire trip, there was no time to do any site seeing. Some of the images have been tagged with an identifying state name whenever possible but others were unclear.. upon return, much of the trip has now become one big blur. LOL!   Needless to say it was a very quick trip, that began April 3rd - April 12th. We could have been back late April 10th if it were not for the freeway closures in Nebraska, near the Wyoming border, where we where shut down for two nights.

The images in Boston, MA where the delivery of SPO 2788 took place, there was a light drizzle of rain all day, except during the time we needed to unload the vehicle for the DMV.  We managed to find a spot without puddles.  It was very *rewarding* for us to experience this delivery and the owner was so awesome to work with and finally meet in person.  Thanks to his generosity, we did get to do a little sight-seeing in downtown Boston that evening, thanks to the owner. Thank you G!

The Monza Red MKIII was a special creation, designed for the Roush team to take on the road to various trade shows.

The red MKIII was fitted with a 427IR dry sump. Extras to the MKIII were upgraded Wilwood brakes, bigger sway bars, all chrome work... lights, windshield, snaps, etc. were finished with a black chrome finish.

The wheels, 18" pin drive by American Racing and Cobra Seats asked Superformance to display their seats and seat belts.

Roush added some of their own badges and Superformance had the wind wings engraved SPF powered by Roush. Jack Roush signed the car in the booth which attracted a lot of attention.

Another SPF MKIII - Dark silver/ light silver with black pin stripe car was displayed in the Willwood booth, next to the Roush/SPF booth. It was fitted with a Paxton supercharger and upgraded Willwood brakes 18" Cast center wheels. * These wheels are available now.

  • Racing Fun While in Nevada

Racing Fun While in Nevada (34)

One of the best unexpected opportunities for us, while at the SEMA Show 2007, was a chance to witness up close the various NHRA racers who stayed a day after for 'testing' their cars... that weekend happened to be the NHRA National Event held there in Las Vegas, Nevada. This was Monday, October 29th, one day prior to the start of the SEMA Show. We initially had driven out there to see the Shelby museum/office which is located across the street from the track. A huge complex that includes both the NHRA Drag Strip and the NASCAR track... otherwise known as 'The Strip', just an awesome track.

It was an overcast but warm day, perfect actually for watching these cars test run at the track. The noise was spectacular, we were able to get inside and as close to the staging area as anyone could have. It really was a three ring circus of sorts with the NHRA race car test-runs, the a constant fly over of jets practicing maneuvers overhead (the military airport nearby) and the occasional NASCAR track sounds of cars using the track at the same time. It was impressive and exciting. We even witnessed a near disaster when one of the race cars hit the wall while testing. Although the car was damaged, no one was injured, thankfully.

After a few hours there, we all left with tiny minuscule pieces of tire rubber speckled on our faces, arms and clothes... blow-back from the force of the cars launching and the wind blowing in our direction. But hey, we were happy, despite the inconvenience of smeared black smudge marks. LOL! It was a small price to pay for a few hours of a spectacular experience!

Our trip down to pick her up was memorable, to say the least (see News) but she's home safe now, ready for an engine. We'll update here with additional images as things progress.

FYI... some images below are taken with a cell phone during our return trip from hell, when we were caught in various wind and snow storms in Wyoming, Salt Lake and Idaho. Trust us, you don't wanna know. We're just happy to have made it home in one piece.

    Roush Engine 427R (8)

Images of our newest arrival... the Roush 427R engine, “Polished-Package” (for one of our customers). We think it's a work of art.

Btw, installing one of these power engines increases the value of any vehicle.

    London Car Show (16)

A few images from the London Car Show passed along to Superformance and forwarded onto Dealers. Currently we have no other information or links to add here but will update when or if possible.

P.S. Yes that is a pale blue/orange color scheme on the GT40... we rather like the number '6' and think it would look right at home in our showroom too.

  • SEMA Show '06

    SEMA Show '06 (20)

These are our images from the recent trip to the SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Too many things to see in just a few days. We tried anyway... All images were taken using a cell phone, beacause we were advised at registration time no pictures were allowed even though everyone clearly had cameras, videos, etc, so guess who left their digital camera at home, ugh. Next year...

  • '69 Camaro Project

    '69 Camaro Project (18)

This is a 'multi purpose' project we're working on, designed to run a 2 1/2 mile road race course in the Dallas, TX area.

Full roll cage, Global West suspension, Willwood road race brakes, Richmond 6 speed transmission, Mark Williams Ford 9" stainless steel Detroit Locker Rear, 700 horse power big block Chevy engine. Street legal and runs on pump gas. And just for fun--it has a Vintage Air air conditioning system. Totaling $100,000 plus.

To clarify here, any reference to 'we' means Wayne Montgomery and his brother Mike Montgomery, of Mike's Automotive in Boise, who have been working in Mike's garage for the past few years on this project and not at Gear 6 Performance. The Montgomery brothers have been involved for years in both building and racing high performance cars.
