Audi has revealed the revised R15 TDI prototype racer

AutoWeek: Audi has revealed the revised R15 TDI prototype racer

Audi has revealed the revised R15 TDI prototype racer.Audi has released photos of its new R15 TDI LMP1 racing prototype that will begin testing at Sebring International Raceway on March 22.

The new design, dubbed internally the “R15 plus,” stems from aerodynamic rule changes mandated by Le Mans organizer Automobile Club do l'Ouest, as well as new-for-2010 air restrictors and reduced turbocharging pressure for diesel-powered vehicles.

Audi said it spent as much time as possible reworking the aerodynamics, resulting in the split-nose look as it tries to keep overall performance loss to a minimum.

The R15 will not compete in this weekend's 12 Hours of Sebring, as Audi did not have it ready in time for race action. Instead, it will test at the central-Florida track two days after the race, as will archrival Peugeot, which is also participating in the 12 Hours. Audi, however, will return to the United States for October's Petit Le Mans, the American Le Mans Series season finale at Road Atlanta. Peugeot does not plan to race at Petit.
