Grand-Am: Memo Gidley rejoins Team Sahlen for season finale in Utah

AutoWeek: Grand-Am: Memo Gidley rejoins Team Sahlen for season finale in Utah

Memo Gidley, right, will drive in the Grand-Am season finale at Miller Motorsports Park. Gidley is shown talking with Klaus Graf at the 2009 Petit Le Mans. Former CART driver Memo Gidley will return to GT competition in the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series when he rejoins Team Sahlen. Gidley will drive one of the team's Mazda RX-8s in Grand-Am's season finale at Miller Motorsports Park on Sept. 11 alongside regular driver Wayne Nonnamaker.

Gidley drove for Team Sahlen previously in Grand-Am's Watkins Glen event at the beginning of August. He was in fourth place with 15 minutes remaining in the race when a loose wheel forced him to pit.

“Memo did a fantastic job at Watkins Glen. It's great to have him back behind the wheel, teamed with Wayne in the No. 43,” said Joe Sahlen. “He was a great fit with the team at the Glen, both on the track and in the paddock. He drove a superb race up to the point of the loose wheel. Hopefully everything can be in our favor this time, and Memo can have a clear run to the finish.”

Gidley said: “I was impressed with the winning effort that the entire Sahlen Team put in to the race at Watkins, and I am very excited to be back with them at Utah. The Sahlens No. 43 Mazda RX-8 was such a neat car to drive at Watkins, I had a grin the whole time. Also, driving with Wayne was awesome. He was very fast and we really worked together well. We had such a nice run going at Watkins until the wheel problem at the end of the race. I think we will be very strong at Miller, and I'm really looking forward to having another shot to go for a win with the Sahlen team.”

Team Sahlen will also enter the No. 42 Mazda RX-8 at MMP with a three-driver lineup. Joe Sahlen will team with the father-son duo of Joe and Will Nonnamaker.
